Solar Water Heater

Technology

Definition

A solar water heater is a system that uses the sun’s thermal energy to heat water for domestic or commercial use. It typically consists of solar thermal collectors (panels or tubes usually mounted on a roof) through which water or a heat-transfer fluid circulates and is warmed by sunlight. The heated water is stored in an insulated tank for use in showers, faucets, or heating systems. Solar water heaters do not generate electricity; instead, they directly offset the need for gas or electric water heating. They are an efficient way to utilize solar energy, especially in sunny regions, and can substantially reduce water heating costs and associated emissions.
