General
Solar energy is power harnessed from the sun’s radiation. Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight directly into electricity using solar panels, while solar thermal systems capture the sun’s heat for water heating or to drive electricity-generating turbines (as in concentrated solar power plants). As a clean and abundant renewable resource, solar energy can be used at all scales - from small rooftop panels on homes to vast utility-scale solar farms. Solar energy generation produces no direct greenhouse gas emissions or pollution during operation. Its widespread adoption is a key strategy for achieving sustainable power and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
