Section 45X provides per-unit tax credits for domestically produced clean energy components and certain critical minerals (e.g., PV wafers/cells/modules, inverters, battery cells/modules, wind components). Credits are available upon sale to unrelated parties, generally phase down beginning in 2030 and sunset after 2032 (with exceptions for critical minerals), and may be transferred for cash under IRA transferability rules. 45X aims to onshore supply chains and lower costs for U.S. manufacturing.
