Resilience in the energy context refers to the ability of the power system (or a community’s energy infrastructure) to withstand, adapt to, and quickly recover from disruptions, such as extreme weather events, equipment failures, or cyber-attacks. A resilient energy system can maintain or quickly restore electricity service during outages or emergencies. Incorporating renewable energy and storage can enhance resilience: for example, solar panels plus batteries can keep critical facilities powered during grid outages. Microgrids and diversified energy sources also boost resilience by reducing reliance on any single point of failure. For investors and planners, resilience is increasingly a goal, as climate change drives more intense storms and wildfires that challenge traditional grid reliability.
