Onshore wind refers to wind energy projects located on land (as opposed to offshore wind in bodies of water). Onshore wind farms use wind turbines installed in open areas - such as plains, hills, or ridges - where wind is sufficiently strong and steady. They generate electricity by converting the kinetic energy of wind into electrical power through turbines. Onshore wind is one of the most mature and cost-effective renewable energy sources, contributing significant portions of clean power in many countries. Key considerations for onshore wind include site selection (wind resource and proximity to transmission), environmental impact, and community acceptance (noise and aesthetics).
