An off-grid system is an electrical power setup that operates independently of the public utility grid. In solar terms, an off-grid solar system uses solar panels combined with battery storage (and often a backup generator) to provide all the electricity needs of a home or facility. These systems are common in remote areas without grid access or for individuals seeking energy self-sufficiency. Off-grid systems must be designed with enough generation and storage to meet demand at night or during cloudy periods, since there’s no grid backup. They often include charge controllers and inverters to manage battery charging and convert solar DC power to usable AC power.
