A microinverter is a small inverter device that converts DC electricity to AC electricity at the level of a single solar panel (or a few panels), rather than having one large inverter for an entire solar array. In a microinverter-based system, each panel operates independently, which means shading or performance issues on one panel won’t significantly affect the others. Microinverters can optimize power output for each panel and provide panel-level monitoring. They are common in residential and small commercial solar installations where maximizing energy harvest and design flexibility are important.
