Local Content Requirement

Regulation

Definition

A local content requirement is a policy or regulation that mandates a certain percentage of materials, components, or labor for a project must originate from the local country or region. In renewable energy, governments may impose local content rules for solar panels, wind turbine parts, or workforce in order to stimulate domestic manufacturing and job creation. For instance, a country might require that 50% of the equipment value in a solar farm be sourced from local manufacturers. While these requirements can support local industry and economy, they may also affect project costs and the supply chain for developers and investors.
