Kilowatt-peak (kWp)

Measurement

Definition

Kilowatt-peak (kWp) is the rated maximum power output of a solar panel or array under standard test conditions (usually 1,000 W/m 2 solar irradiance, 25°C cell temperature). It indicates the peak generation capacity (in kilowatts) when the system is exposed to ideal sunlight and conditions. For example, a solar panel rated at 0.3 kWp can produce 0.3 kW under full sun. Investors and installers use kWp to size and compare solar installations - a 100 kWp solar farm can deliver 100 kW at peak sun, though actual output will vary with conditions.
