General
A greenhouse gas (GHG) is any gas in the atmosphere that traps heat and contributes to the greenhouse effect, leading to global warming. The main GHGs include carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), methane (CH 4 ), nitrous oxide (N 2 O), and fluorinated gases. The energy sector is a major source of GHG emissions (especially CO 2 from burning fossil fuels). Transitioning to renewable energy and improving energy efficiency are key strategies to reduce GHG emissions and mitigate climate change.
