Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC)

Finance

Definition

An Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) represents the environmental attributes of 1 MWh of electricity and can be issued, transferred, and retired to substantiate clean energy claims. Common EAC systems include RECs (US), Guarantees of Origin (EU), and I-RECs/TIGRs (international). EACs are distinct from physical power and are used for compliance or voluntary procurement; robust programs include anti-double-counting and audited retirement.
