Demand-Side Management

General

Definition

Demand-Side Management (DSM) encompasses various strategies and programs aimed at controlling or reducing energy consumption on the consumer’s side of the electricity meter. This includes energy efficiency measures (like installing LED lighting or better insulation), demand response initiatives, and load shifting to off-peak times. For renewable energy, DSM is important because it can smooth out demand peaks and better align consumption with the availability of solar or wind power, improving grid reliability and reducing the need for additional generation capacity.
