Concentrated Solar Power (CSP)

Technology

Definition

Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) is a solar technology that uses mirrors or lenses to concentrate a large area of sunlight onto a small area to produce heat. This heat is then used to generate electricity, typically by boiling fluid to drive a steam turbine (similar to a conventional power plant). CSP systems include designs like parabolic troughs, power towers (heliostats focusing sunlight on a central receiver), and dish Stirling engines. They often incorporate thermal energy storage (like molten salt) so that power generation can continue even when the sun isn’t shining.
