Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV)

Technology

Definition

Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) are solar power-generating materials that are built into the structure of a building, such as photovoltaic roof shingles, facades, or windows. BIPV systems serve a dual purpose: they act as part of the building’s envelope (providing shelter or aesthetics) while simultaneously producing electricity from sunlight. This approach enables clean energy generation without requiring separate solar panels, seamlessly integrating renewables into architectural design.
