Biomass energy is renewable energy generated from organic materials (biomass) like wood, agricultural residues, or dedicated energy crops. Biomass can be burned directly or converted into biofuels or biogas, which are then used to produce heat and electricity. When sourced sustainably, biomass energy is considered carbon-neutral because the CO 2 released in combustion is offset by the CO 2 absorbed during the plants’ growth.
